HISTORY OF THE NELROD COMPANY
The Nelrod Company is one of the country’s premiere affordable housing consulting firms. The Nelrod Company was founded in May 1985 and incorporated in September 1990 in Fort Worth, Texas by its President and CEO, Nelson Rodriguez (Nelrod).
Under one of his six presidential appointments, Mr. Rodriguez oversaw over $5 billion in small business contracting and directed a $20 billion community development and affordable housing program with 960 employees. His experience in government and property management led to the development of his pioneering consulting firm specializing in assisted and affordable housing.
During the mid 80s, there were only a handful of private consulting firms in the nation specializing in affordable and assisted housing, and even fewer that have remained successful since then. What set Nelrod apart from the pack was the company’s focus on small to mid-size assisted housing agencies. While the assisted housing consulting industry appeared one-dimensional and focused on larger cities, Nelrod went against the grain and primarily serviced smaller housing communities across the country, communities with the same problems as their larger neighbors, but with far fewer resources to overcome them.
The Nelrod Company still specializes in management, planning, and training services for the affordable and assisted housing industry, and has provided technical assistance in almost every facet of affordable housing agency management and operations. The firm has come a long way since 1985, as it has provided technical assistance to over 3,700 assisted housing agencies both in the United States and overseas. What originally started as a simple mission to help a few small housing communities, has since transformed how the assisted housing industry operates nationwide. The Nelrod Company to this day takes great pride in serving assisted housing agencies of all sizes, because we know that changing any community, large or small, can still make a world of difference.
